And those who believed and did good works and believed in what has been sent down upon Muhammad, and that is the truth from their Lord, Allah has removed from them their evils and has made good their conditions.

This is because the kafirs followed falsehood and the believers followed the Truth from their Lord and thus Allah sets forth for men their examples.

Shah Farid-ul-Haque (English)
:

This is because that the infidels followed the false hood and the believers followed the truth which is from their Lord. Thus Allah narrated to people their descriptions.

Mohammed Aqib Qadri (English)
:

This is because the disbelievers followed falsehood and the believers followed the Truth which is from their Lord; this is how Allah illustrates the examples of people to them.

Syed Sakhawat Ali (English)
:
So when you meet, the kafirs (in battle) smite their necks. Till when you have fully routed them by wide slaughter then tie fast the bonds, then set them free either by grace or ransom until the war lays down its burdens. This is so. And had Allah willed He could take revenge Himself from them but that He may try some of you by means of others. And those who are slain in the way of Allah, He will never let their deeds be lost.
Shah Farid-ul-Haque (English)
:
Therefore when you encounter the infidels, then there is smiting of the necks, till when you have fully slaughtered, then tie fast, and afterwards leave them, either by grave or for ransom, till the war lay down its burdens. This is so. And had Allah willed, He would have avenged Himself upon the, but that He may try among you and against the other. And those who have been killed in the way of Allah shall never render their works vain.
Mohammed Aqib Qadri (English)
:
So when you confront the disbelievers, strike at their necks; until when you have slain them in plenty, tie them up firmly; then after that, you may either release them as a favour or take ransom, until the war lays down its ordeal; this is it; and had Allah willed He Himself could have taken revenge from them, but this is to test some of you with others; and Allah will surely never waste the deeds of those who were killed in His way.

Goelam Rasoel Alladien (Dutch)
:
